March 2012 Los Angeles Revit Users Group meeting

This month's LARUG will be a very special one, totally New & Redesigned, with a lot of newly added functionality ;-)!!!
To be held Wednesday, March 28th, 6pm (but get in early!!!)
at:
CO ARCHITECTS
5055 Wilshire Boulevard, 9th Floor
Los Angeles, California 90036

First up will be CO Architects' Jessie Carrillo and his team presenting “The Design Assist process with BIM”
They will go over how they use BIM in the design assist process to:
1.    Communicate the design intent
2.    Get on budget
3.    Help produce shop drawings
4.    Get the desired look

After that 30 minute presentation we will be having
The Los Angeles BIM Consortium's (AKA: Los Angeles' #BIMmodelingFluffyKittenKillas) Troy Gates, Marcello Sgambelluri & Jay Zallan presenting: Well we can't really say legally just yet, but you do know what comes out in March, right?

You will just have to show up to find out!!!

Park on the streets or in the building, if you can afford to.

Security will need RSVP lists so do reply and get in before 6pm or else... If you arrive at 6pm or later you will need to take the following steps to reach CO's office:
1. At the entrance door, pick up the phone and wait for Kastle (security company) to answer.
2. Simply state that you’re attending a CO Event and they will admit you.
3. Security phones need to be used to:
    a. Get into building from garage
    b. Get into building from Wilshire Blvd
    c. Elevator access to 9th floor
    d. Get out of parking garage if no attendant at gate. (put your parking ticket in box by phone)

-See you there & then

Do You Follow? Do You Lead? We Do Both!!!

There are some new places & people & groups, etc. to follow (in some of our opinions) and here they are...

#BIMandments and @BIMandments
Use the #BIMandments hashtag to tweet your best Revit & BIM helpful quotes.

Also create a search for #BIMandments and you will get them as they arrive...

The BIMandments are great resources to read from the beginning!!!

There are posts from many fantastic BIM people that you should follow if you Twitter and BIM... (if you don't already follow them of course).

You can also follow @BIMandments of course, though I find combining the 'follow' with the search is best.

@RevitFactCheck
This is a user (or users :-)) that bring #TruthInBIM via twitter and a new blog: BIM Fact Check

The Revit Fact Check folks are debunking lies and misrepresentations in the world of BIM that seem to be popping up from Revit & BIM haters.

If you have others that you'd like to share just let us know and we'll be happy to share!!!

Restructuring for BIM Success: BIM with Intelligence from DesignIntelligence

One of LARUG's Leadership Consortium (Leather Jackets to follow?) has an article out on DesignIntelligence (@dinet) and if you are implementing BIM or any other process and/or process change this article will surely give food for thought... and a bunch of...well read it for yourself!!!

"To find success with BIM, firms need to look beyond the CAD processes that staff are comfortable using. Assessment, planning, and communication are key." "CAD processes don’t require that architectural practices be good, but BIM processes do..."

Hit the images & links to the article and the resource links & follow the #BIMandments (Twitter anyone?)

Revit Users: "Snatch The Pebbles From My Hand" NOT "Grasshopper's"

Ian Keough does some great work and if you have ever seen Grasshopper for Rhino, yet use Revit and wish there were similar tools your wait is over (Thanks Ian!!!)... Dynamo is here...well, there (hit the images to go "there")

It is software 'in the wild' so do read up on it, as there are sure to be updates, changes as time goes on... If you add functionality please do share!!!

Check out all the posts on Ian's site, but CHECK HERE in particular to get to the Appropriate Building Coder page as well!!!

Thanks (from the Revit Community) to Ian Keough & Jeremy Tammik for the work & Troy Gates for letting us know about it...

BTW: Extra credit if you get the title's Kung Foo inference.
